First adopted as the Irish Flag in 1921 the “Tricolour” Irish flag consist of three colors, each color representing a different facet of Irish politics. The green signifies the predominantly Catholic Irish republicans. The orange represents the Irish protestants, who favor a union with Britain. The white represents the hope for a peace between the two communities.
